AATSEEL Policy on Diversity, Tolerance, and Harassment

AATSEEL Policy on Diversity, Tolerance, and Harassment

AATSEEL recognizes the valuable contribution its diverse membership makes to the Association and seeks to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all. The Association is committed to providing a forum in which all members can participate without fear of discrimination or harassment and calls on every member to treat all others with respect and tolerance. No member should be excluded, discriminated against or harassed in relation to sex, relationship status, pregnancy, parental status, breast feeding, age, race, ethnicity, citizenship, impairment, religious belief or religious activity, gender identity, sexuality, and/ or association with, or relation to, a person identified on the basis of any of the above attributes.

During an in-person or online conference, we expect that participants will present and listen to others’ presentations with respect and decency. We do not tolerate shouting down, threatening, demeaning, or persistently interrupting others.

If any person, whether a AATSEEL member or not, feels that a member of the association has violated this policy the AATSEEL Executive Council request they contact the President or Executive Director of the Association and lodge a formal complaint. All complaints will be dealt with in a confidential manner. This policy is applicable to all events sponsored by AATSEEL, as well as the content of the association’s journal, Slavic and East European Journal, other publications issued by the association, and the association’s website, and any other social media platforms operated by the association (including Facebook, Twitter etc.). Any instances of harassment or threatening behavior during the conference should be reported as soon as possible to Sarah McEleney (the Conference Manager) or Elizabeth Durst (the Executive Director) at the registration desk (in person) or through the conference site (online).
