International Program Specialist

The Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) is looking for an International Program Specialist to assist with CLDP's unique, government-to-government technical assistance programs that draw upon highly experienced advisors from both the public and private sectors to deliver results that make meaningful and lasting changes to the legal and judicial environments of countries around the world.

The Department of Commerce Office of the General Counsel is seeking an International Program Specialist at the GS-9 level for the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP). CLDP provides technical assistance to developing and transitional countries to improve the legal environment and foster greater economic opportunity for local entrepreneurs and U.S. companies alike. CLDP's training and consultative services involve lawmakers, regulators, judges and small and medium businesses seeking to improve the legal environment for doing business in developing and post-conflict countries. CLDP currently works in more than 30 countries and typically conducts over 100 separate training and short-term consultation programs each year. CDLP provides vital government-to-government assistance to countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

CLDP's comprehensive assistance programs address issues that are the highest priorities for U.S. businesses. Programs typically include placing expert advisors with host government ministries, providing legal training and conducting skills workshops in foreign countries, and bringing policymakers, regulators, educators and business people to the US for individualized consultations or training programs.

In order to ensure that its programs are responsive to actual needs and well-coordinated with those of other assistance providers, CLDP works closely with all US Government agencies, host government officials, the private sector, and inter-governmental organizations.

THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE EXTENSIVE DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL TO EASTERN EUROPE AND EURASIA, AMONG OTHER REGIONS.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a United States Citizen.
A one-year probationary period may be required.
Must be suitable for Federal employment.
Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. (www.sss.gov)
Selectee must be able to obtain and hold a Secret clearance.
Fluency in Slavic or Eastern European language.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This position has a selective placement factor. This position requires the individual to speak, read and write fluently in a Slavic or Eastern European language. Applicants who do not meet this selective factor will be considered ineligible for further consideration.
