Post-Doctoral Fellow

Oberlin College - Oberlin, OH

The Department of Russian Language, Literature, and Culture and the Comparative Literature Program at Oberlin College invite applications for a full-time, non-continuing faculty position as a Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two years, beginning in the fall semester of 2011 and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant
Professor and Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow.

The position is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and by a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowships are designed to help promising scholars integrate and balance teaching and research as they make the transition from graduate programs to professional careers in academia.

The incumbent will teach a total of four courses in the general areas of Russian language and literature and Comparative Literature. We are seeking applicants with broad expertise in Russian literature and culture, a strong record as a language teacher, near-native fluency in Russian and English, and an interest in developing comparative courses.

The Fellow will teach one Russian language course at the beginning or intermediate level and one advanced, special topics course. The Fellow’ s offerings in the Comparative Literature Program will include two courses, one at the intermediate and one at the advanced level.
Many fields are of potential interest: the Russian literary connections to Western Europe, for example, or to Asia, or to the traditions of history, art, music, or cinema.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree awarded by a US institution no earlier than 2008 or in hand by 1 July 2011. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
