Program Assistant (Russian language)

Sustainable Fisheries and Markets - Portland, OR

Reporting to the Sustainable Fisheries and Markets Program Director, the Program Assistant is responsible for providing general and Russian-language program support for Wild Salmon Center’s Sustainable Fisheries and Markets Initiative.

This program is using innovative market-based approaches to support salmon conservation and sustainable fisheries in the Russian Far East and across the Pacific Rim. This is a full time position.

The ideal candidate will be independent and entrepreneurial and will have real world experience working or studying in Russia. Understanding the challenges and opportunities of working in the Russian Federation is a key to success in this position. The candidate should also have the ability to multitask, and have strong project management and Russian language skills.

A background in international fisheries issues (for example, experience working as a fisheries observer, or within the seafood industry) and market incentives such as third party certification will be considered a valuable plus.

Responsibilities

Provide project coordination and administrative support.
Assist in communications and correspondence with US and Russian colleagues, partners and grant recipients.
Assist with logistical planning and coordination of WSC events such as international exchanges, inter-organizational strategy sessions, regional workshops and local events.
Russian-English language support.
Other tasks as required.

Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Detail oriented.
Strong Russian language skills, both written and verbal.
Creativity and problem solving ability.
Computer skills (Internet, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets and database).
Personal commitment to environmental and social justice.
Experience working cross-culturally.
Ability to work and travel independently.
Experience in seafood industry and/or market based conservation a plus.
Sense of humor is essential!

Travel:

The position is based in Portland Oregon, and will likely require domestic and international travel, especially the Russian Federation, up to two months a year.

Compensation:
